In-line liquid concentration or density measurement for process control in general industry applications

Vaisala K-PATENTS general type process refractometer PR-43-G is made to last and is an ideal all-round instrument for measuring the liquid concentration and density in a wide range of industrial applications. The PR-43-G masters highly accurate measuring technology in demanding process control applications where conventional density equipment may struggle due to undissolved solids or bubbles in the process stream.

The refractometer system consists of a compact or probe refractometer and a graphical user interface. The refractometer is a stand-alone device capable of operating independently or together with a physical user interface. It has a measurement range of 0 to 100 % and it provides an Ethernet or 4–20 mA output signal proportional to the temperature-compensated concentration value for real-time process control. Different user interface options range from a rugged, multichannel, industrial computer to a compact lightweight and a web-based version which allow the user to select the most preferred way to access and use the refractometer measurement and diagnostics data.

The refractometer built-in web server and instrument homepage enable remote monitoring, configuring and diagnostics via an Ethernet connection. Every PR-43-G Refractometer also provides an mA output signal for control purposes. Special wetted parts materials and hazardous area certifications are available.

The measurement performance is unsurpassed in harsh process conditions with high contents of solids, particles, bubbles, pulsating flows or abrasive and corrosive substances.

Features
Identical refractometer calibration. For this reason, each refractometer is freely interchangeable with each other without any optical recalibration or parameter changes.
Full range, nD = 1.3200...1.5300 corresponds to hot water...100 % by weight. Optional ranges: nD = 1.260…1.470; nD = 1.410...1.620; nD = 1.520...1.730
Process temperature range for compact type PR-43-GC: -40°C...130°C (-40°F...266°F), for probe type PR-43-GP: -40°C...150°C (-40°F...302°F).
Completely digital system: particles and bubbles do not affect operation or accuracy
CORE-optics: no drift, no re-calibration, no mechanical adjustments required
Special wetted parts materials such as AISI 316L stainless steel, Alloy 20, Hastelloy C276/ASTM C276, Nickel 200/201, Titanium GR2/ATM B348 GR2 available
Non-incendive (Ex n) and intrinsic safety (Ex ia) hazardous area certification available
Protection class IP67/Type 4X (for outdoor use)
PR-43-GP refractometer has a built-in web server with an instrument homepage. The homepage allows for configuring, monitoring, verifying and diagnosing the refractometer via an Ethernet connection
Fast process temperature measurement by built-in Pt1000 and automatic temperature compensation.
Simple and easy calibration verification using standard refractive index liquids and a built-in verification procedure at customer site.

Key Benefits

Designed for harsh environments
Vaisala K-PATENTS Process refractometer PR-43-G is designed for harsh environments that can be corrosive, abrasive, subject to extreme temperatures, pressures, vibration or contamination, humidity and dust, or any combinations of these factors. Selection of different IP codes (IEC 60529) and NEMA ratings are available for the refractometer and user interface that withstand various harsh conditions also when the equipment needs to be used outdoors.
Easy and cost effective to install and operate
Process refractometer PR-43-G is installed in the main processing line, bypass line or vessel either directly with Flange or Sandvik L coupling process connection, or via a large variety of cost-effective and easy to mount flow cell options. The user interface of the refractometer can be installed locally in the field, remotely in the control room or in both locations by connecting several user interfaces in a network.

Process refractometer has no lamps or moving parts requiring regular maintenance or recalibration. All this means low total cost of ownership for the customer.
Accurate and reliable
Vaisala provides in-line instruments to the industry with a measurement accuracy comparable to the accuracy of the production laboratory. Vaisala K-PATENTS Process refractometer has a unique digital sensing technology, which offers high reliability and stable measurement and calibration even in the most demanding process conditions.
